About Our Department ccording
to Section 60 of NYS Town Law, the Town Board, as the executive
body of the town, acts as a unit and must function as a collective
body. Each member has one vote. The Town Board may, by resolution,
delegate to the Supervisor the authority to supervise the daily
business of the Town government, but may not abdicate to the Supervisor
the board's basic statutory responsibilities. Those responsibilities
include authorizing the expenditure of public funds, appointments
to various boards and commissions, in accordance with the Municipal Home
Rule Law.
Town Councilpersons have by state statute a
term of office of four years. The term of office of Town Supervisor,
however, is two years. Election of members of the Town Board is
normally staggered, so that the whole Town Board will not be due
for election in the same year.
