About Our Department

The Parks & Recreation Commission is comprised of a seven member volunteer body appointed by the Town Board. They serve a seven-year term or fulfill the remainder of time for a departing Commissioner. They oversee the park facilities, programs, staff and budget process. They plan park improvements, establish rules and regulations and may assist with interviews and staff hiring. They interact with community members and work closely with the Recreation Supervisor and Administrative Assistant.

The Park Supervisor oversees all recreational facilities within the municipality. This work involves planning, organizing and supervising recreational programs, activities and related staff.  Conducts interviews and staff hiring of over 80 seasonal employees. Assists with budget preparation and application. Interacts with members of the community and County and State Agencies.

The Administrative Assistant assists the Supervisor, conducts ticket issue and is responsible for general office management.

About Our Facilities

Thank You….

The growth of recreational facilities in Woodbury is a story of generosity, money and commitment on the part of several local families.

Among them, the Cornell Family, whose initial goal was to provide a place for young people to learn how to swim.

CENTRAL VALLEY POND

The entrance is located on Dunderberberg Road in Central Valley.  The parking lot is across the street from the pond and sits down the hill from the entrance of the M-W High School.  The pond is chlorinated and has a large paved and painted surface with two diving boards and two rafts, which are anchored in the deep-water section. A pavilion houses a large room for game playing. There are picnic and shaded areas and a sand bottom playground area for children. A basketball, volleyball, racquetball and tennis court are on premises and Dunderberg Baseball Field sits above on the hill.  A stage area was recently added for weekend concerts and special events.

EARL RESERVOIR

The entrance road into Earl is called Coach Wilson Trail.  The road is located off of Schunnemunk Road, which branches off of Ridge Road in Highland Mills. This facility differs from the pond in that it is a natural spring fed reservoir with a sandy beach.  A diving platform, which has both a high and low board, is located in the middle and deepest area of the water.  Paddleboats are available and we also stock the water for fishing.

There is a large pavilion with tables and grills for cooking. An open-air stage for concerts adjoins the pavilion area and was built by local Boy Scout Troops. There are picnic and shaded areas located throughout and a large children’s playground enhances the park. Basketball, volleyball and tennis courts are on property as are several fields, which serve softball, baseball, soccer and Gaelic Football leagues. This facility also has a state of the art roller hockey skating rink and a newly added bocce ball court. Trails leading to Schunnmunk Mountain can also be accessed through this park. In the winter months,
the ice is cleared for ice-skating and winter sports. This facility also serves as the home of Day Camp Rez, our seasonal children’s camp, in its 10th year of operation.

Pre and post season (before Memorial Day and after Labor Day) the pavilion is open to residents who wish to rent it for a family outing.  A fee is charged for maintenance, usage and a security guard, who is mandatory for safety purposes. An application can be picked up at the Park’s Office.

BRICKLEY PARK AND FIELD

This baseball field and playground area, built in 1973, was named after Raymond Brickley for his dedication to the Parks and Little League Ball Team. It is located on Hunter Street in Highland Mills.

DUNDERBERG BALL FIELD

Built in the sixties, it was refurbished in 2006 and dedicated to honor our present Park Chairman, Joseph Gianzero, in light of his continued dedication to the Parks and Little League. The entrance is located on Dunderberberg Road in Central Valley and sits below the entrance of the M-W High School.

PAVILION RENTAL

Pre and post season (before Memorial Day and after Labor Day) the Pavilion at Earl is open to residents who wish to rent it for a family outing. An application can be picked up at the Park’s Office.  Below are the fees:

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who is eligible to use Woodbury Parks and who needs a pass? What is the cost?

A. Anyone who resides full time in the Town of Woodbury is eligible. Homeowner passes are valid for five seasons from the date of issue and are $25.

**Renters: now have the option to purchase a 1-year ($15) or 3-year ($25) pass. A 3-year pass reflects a savings, however, residency must still be proven at the beginning of each season.  The pass will be made inactive at the end of the year and can only be re-activated by coming into the office with current proof of residency.

Pass fees are waived for senior residents 65 and over. The cost to re-issue a lost or misplaced pass is $10.

Residents who move, but remain within town limits, must come to the office and present a new proof of residency to have their pass validated.

Q. When can I get a pass?

A. Beginning April 21st, ticket issue will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 1 pm.  Beginning the week of May 6th, ticket issue hours will be expanded to include Tuesday evenings from 6pm – 9pm and Saturdays from 10 am – 2 pm.  This schedule will continue through the end of June.

In order to avoid waiting on lines, we advise that you register early.  All residents must provide valid proof of residency at the time of registration.

Q. We both work and have a babysitter.  At what age does my babysitter have to be to bring my children to the parks?

A. All sitters must be the minimum age of 18.

Q. My babysitter lives out of town; can he/she bring my child to the park?

A. Temporary Babysitters/Guardians/Nannies/Grandparents are issued a temporary seasonal pass.

Out of town sitters must obtain a special seasonal pass through our office. They may only visit the park when supervising a resident child and are not permitted to bring non-resident children.

At registration, the resident must provide a letter addressed to the Park Commission stating:

  1. the frequency and times the sitter will be visiting.
  2. authorization to supervise your child on park property and in the water, and act in accordance with all park rules and regulations.

Q. How do guest passes work?

A. Each registered household receives 5 FREE guest passes per season. FREE passes do not accumulate from year to year.

We offer two types of Purchased guest passes:

Unused purchased guest passes do not expire, but must be updated.
